FREETHORPE 10 MILES 27/01/2019

The BAM Nuttall Freethorpe Ten is a 10 mile circular road race which takes place every January and comes around ever so quickly!  It is a popular race as a lot of runners use it as part of their training for half and full marathons.  It is also the first race of the year in the grand prix series.  40 Jaguars braved the weather (and more Jags volunteered throughout the course).  Although not as bad as expected (our resident weather expert had predicted 70 mile per hour winds!) it was still pretty hard going – wet under foot and very cold.  It is a pretty course and most Jags managed a smile for the camera (we even got one nipple shot!).  For me all seemed to be going pretty well until I turned the corner at 7 miles and hit what has been described as “hell hill”, which was basically a wind tunnel.  Running uphill against the 20 mph head wind was tough going and I struggled through the next 3 miles cursing like a trooper.  Support from fellow Jags at this stage of the race really helped and a special thanks has to go to Marion who gave me the nudge I needed to get through the last kilometre.  Thanks to everyone who volunteered, supported and were ready with their cameras.

All in all we did pretty well – 2 diamond (with Emma Blake being first in her age group and adding another trophy to her collection), 6 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze standards.  Even with the weather as it was we managed 8 PBs between us.  There were 17 first timers.

After the race I said “never again” but watch this space next year!!

ELTHAM 10K 13/01/2019

If this post can inspire any individual who wants to change their lives, get fit and enjoy the passion that we have discovered in running then we would so happy.

In the last 2 years we made a decision to get fit and started by doing Catton parkrun and now we are just a little addicted. It helps the mind, the body and allows you to eat a lot more and not put on weight! We run, cycle and swim wherever possible.

Today this happened … running the 10K at Eltham where Radley Fenn came first and Katie Fenn came third in the ladies, and although that is not what it is about, boy it gives you such a buzz!

So to everyone who even got off the sofa today and walked to the shops… go you! It changes lives… simple

VALENCIA MARATHON 02/12/2018

Ok so you know all those times I said I was helping Howard train for the Valencia Marathon? Yeah I fibbed. Howard talked me in to running it with him and I kept it quiet so that I had a different experience to London. The London Marathon was a fantastic day but it was hot, crowded and the training, focus and fund-raising was pretty intense and I felt really low once it was all over. I just wanted to put London to bed and have a different experience.
The training went reasonably ok, Howard travels a fair bit and then suffered a bit of sciatica. I fitted training around life and kids as best I could, but we managed the 20 and then 22 milers really well so we felt confident and excited about our break away at the end of it. We boarded the 7am Friday flight from Stansted, along with about 200 other marathon runners and were in our accommodation before lunchtime. We were hugely lucky to be able to borrow a fantastic apartment from one of my workmates. We headed to the Centre of Arts and Sciences for the Expo which was only 15 mins walk away. This place is amazing! We collected our bibs (chips on the back) t-shirt/vest and very generous pre-event goody bag! The Expo was nothing compared to London but the photo opportunities and runners wall were fab!
