Reedham 10

January 29th, 2012

Yet another fantastic set of results with Ken Bowman and Melanie Burch both taking second place prizes in their various categories, but 5 personal bests and another strong turnout are further evidence of how strong our club has become. Special mention must go to Ben Letzer, who, on one of the coldest days of the year not only raced a fantastic ten mile time but ran all the way to Reedham from his home before the race (mad or superhuman? you decide!)

Parkrun

January 19th, 2012

Parkruns continue to be both an excellent way of speed training and also a regular source of 5k personal bests as two more of our members have recently proved. On the 7th January Scott Chadwick took part in the Gorleston parkrun and achieved a silver standard pb of 20.31, whilst on the 14th January in the Norwich run Rebecca Widdows managed a bronze standard pb of 24.18.

New Years Day 10k

January 1st, 2012

Whilst most of us could be forgiven for staying in bed and groaning, 11 committed Jaguars joined over 400 other runners for the first Norfolk race of the year at Wymondham. Steve Niblett was our first member to finish with gold standard 39.39, whilst Ken Bowman with a diamond standard 41.57 took first prize in his category. Fortunately the late 11.30 start gave Ellie Bye a couple of extra hours to shake off her sore head and she turned in a fine performance with a pb of 48.58.

Clearly the winter training has been going well as none of the others who ran gave any less than a silver standard performance. Therefore there are no excuses for the rest of us. These 11 have set the benchmark for the rest to follow. Whilst last year saw some excellent results for the club, this year is looking like it might be even better. Happy Running!

Bedford Half Marathon

December 11th, 2011

Over 1500 runners took to the start of the Bedford Half Marathon but only 1 Jaguar was there. Ken Bowman put all his recent hard work to good use running a platinum standard pb of 1:32:32. He finished 216th overall and came 3rd in his age category.

Grim Challenge

December 4th, 2011

Peter Cobb travelled to Alsershot for the Grim 8. This is an 8 mile race over the army’s tank training course and is tough. For the particpants there are waist deep muddy puddles to negotiate as well as crawls under wire and just to finish is an achievement in itself. Peter had an excellent performance and finished 257th in a field of 1945.

Theres was no repeat of last years blizzard conditions, that postponed the race but this years runners did have to contend with near gale force winds. Despite the conditions 6 of the 15 Jags came away with p.b’s whilst another 6 ran the distance for the first time.

Shouldham Warren 9k Cross Country

November 13th, 2011

Once again it was a pleasure to be running through the woods of Shouldham Warren and the warm sun made the normally hard 9k course seem a little easier.  David Braily running his first ever cross country event, over a much longer distance than he is used to,  finished strongly in a time of 43.13  and says he will certainly be back next time.  Dave Hutcheon running  in the very competitive 60+ category came 8th in 42.50.  Brenda Hutcheon, running on her favourite surface, finished 2nd in the ladies 55+ in 45.54.  The next race in the series is 6.5k on the 18th December so lets have some more Jags out there this time.  It’s good winter training and stamina building.

Norwich Parkrun

November 12th, 2011

In a number of recent Norwich Parkruns, a number of our members have recently achieved 5k personal best times. On the 29th October Ken Bowman ran a pb of 19.52, giving him a diamond standard, whilst in the same event David Egerton finished with a silver standard 20.55.

On the 5th November David Brailey ran yet another 5k pb, this time achieving his first bronze standard with a time of 22.25.

In the 12th November race Mark Harmer ran a silver standard 19.55, whilst in the same event Sarah Jay ran a parkrun pb of 23.37 and Peter Kean-Cockburn ran a parkrun pb of 24.01.

Great East Run 20k and 10k

November 6th, 2011

The wind and undulating course made this a challenging event, however there were still some excellent times run by the Jaguars. In the 20k race Steve Niblett crossed the line with a time of 1.21.44 taking 3rd place in his category, he was followed by Colin Robilliard with a time of 1.22.57, which gave him 1st place in his category. Denver Slowther and Ken Bowman had a personal battle to be next to finish with Denver just taking it in a time of 1.28.44 with Ken just seconds behind in 1.28.53. Adrian Fletcher was the only other Jaguar to run the 20k and finished in 1.44.13.

In the 10k, Richard Collyer for probably the only time in his running career, crossed the line as first Jaguar with a time of 45.31 (Silver). However most of the praise in this race should go to Emily Hannant who has returned to her best, finishing with a pb of 46.56 (silver). Claire Owen also took part and finished with a time of 56.16, an excellent time given the challenging course.
