Lawrence Wade ran another 5k p.b. at The Norwich Park Run taking a further 10 seconds off his previous time in 17.51.  The Club Record could be in danger of being broken this year as there are a few in the club getting very close to Mark Haynes time of 17.42.

The first running of  The Mad March Hare 10k was a great success with over 150 runners taking to the start line. Andrew Mulligan was first across the line for the home team, coming in tenth overall with an excellent gold standard time of  37.50, only two other Jaguars took part, both first time runners for the club Ben Dennington and William Robinson, Ben ran a bronze standard 46.19 whilst William posted a very respectable 47.22

David Brailey, having taken 30 seconds off his previous best time two weeks ago, continued his success today running almost another 30 seconds quicker in 21.35.

Scott Chadwick was in a determined mood this morning setting off at a good pace which paid off in a p.b. He took 30 seconds off his time and just missed breaking 20 mins by two seconds. Not to be outdone partner Claire Owen also ran a p.b. in 25 .14. Obviously the winter training is paying off.

Another week on from the Wymondham 20 and still records are being broken.  This time by Steve Bates, who goes into hibernation over the winter, and now in the 40 -44 age group broke the age group record running 17.55 in a diamond standard time. Other p.b’s on the day went to Lawrence Wade (18.00 – gold), Dave Egerton (20.38 – gold), Ellie Bye (21.59 – silver) and David Brailey (22.01 – bronze).  The previous week Sarah Jay regained her club age record from Debbie Moore running 23.10.(silver standard).

There were  some excellent times achieved in the Wymondham 20 which goes to show that marathon training is going well. Ben Letzer was the star of the show running a club record in an outstanding time of 2.09.51. If he keeps this up all the club records will be broken this year. Andrew Mulligan, Mel Porter, and Jon Howe ran p.b’s with Mark Harmer, Scott Chadwick, Rod Bye, Denver Slowther, Jackie Bye, Debbie Moore, Emma Blake and Becky Durant running the distance for the first time. A special mention should go to our Chairlady who, up until the race, had only run 10 miles in training so perhaps, on that form, she should enter a marathon next year!!  Colin Robilliard was in the prizes once again winning 2nd in his age group (what’s happened to 1st Colin). Ben, Andrew and Mark were 2nd in the senior men’s team category.

On the 19th February Deb Jones took part in the Brighton Half Marathon, and although due to an error in the course measurement it turned out to be slightly longer she still completed the course in a bronze standard 1:54:59. Website

On the 22nd February Richard and Dawn Collyer travelled to Guildford, Surrey and the picturesque grounds of Losely Hall for the PSUK Cross Country championships. On the challenging course Dawn completed the 4.5 mile 2 lap womens race in a time of  44.17, whilst Richard finished the 6.5 mile  mens race well down the field with a time of 56.37.

On the 25th February Ben Letzer took part in the Winter Poppyline Challenge. Not exactly a race but more of a long distance challenge, it is organised by the Long Distance Walkers association, who despite their name do allow runners to take part. The 52.7 mile route started and finished at Cromer taking in the lanes and fields of North Norfolk. Ben completed the double marathon distance in an amazing time of 8 hours 52 minutes. Website

On the 25th February in the Norwich parkrun Richard Collyer ran a silver standard time of 20:34, taking a whole second from his previous best. Website

Despite the f-f-f-freezing conditions at the start, 14 Jaguars put their thermals on and took to the rural roads of Swanton Abbot for the Valentines 10k. Lawrence Wade and Heather Hollister both gave excellent performances taking first prize in their respective categories, whilst Denver Slowther and Krysia Smith both achieved personal bests, which is some achievement on this testing course. As well as Lawrence, 3 other Jaguars raced the distance for the first time as club members.

Yet another fantastic set of results with Ken Bowman and Melanie Burch both taking second place prizes in their various categories, but 5 personal bests and another strong turnout are further evidence of how strong our club has become. Special mention must go to Ben Letzer, who, on one of the coldest days of the year not only raced a fantastic ten mile time but ran all the way to Reedham from his home before the race (mad or superhuman? you decide!)

Parkruns continue to be both an excellent way of speed training and also a regular source of 5k personal bests as two more of our members have recently proved. On the 7th January Scott Chadwick took part in the Gorleston parkrun and achieved a silver standard pb of 20.31, whilst on the 14th January in the Norwich run Rebecca Widdows managed a bronze standard pb of 24.18.
