SNETTERTON 1/2 MARATHON 18/11/2018
A strong contingent of 21 Jaguars completed the Snetterton half-marathon on November 18th. It was my first time running this event and I was impressed with the organisation and the facilities around the race track – it was nice to have proper toilets rather than portable ones and a café/restaurant to pop into while waiting for the race to start. The many Jaguars running were a strong presence in the organised pre-race warm-up as we waited for the race to start (see pictures!) The half-marathon race consisted of 3 laps of the race track (there was also a marathon event taking place where runners had to do 6 laps) and one nice aspect of the multiple laps was seeing lots of other Jags around the course and being able to cheer each other on. There was also lots of encouragement from the sidelines and the Jags marshalling at various points. The course itself was very flat, with the only real incline being the bridge over the track which had to be covered twice on each lap. As we waited to start, the race conditions appeared to be perfect – a nice temperature and bright sunshine, however out on the course it soon became apparent that the wind was quite strong in places and it was certainly hard going on the sections of the course where you were running into the wind! Despite this, there were excellent performances from all of the Jaguars involved with PBs for Doug Barber, Nouha Tate, Iwona Litwiniec, Sharon Jones and Samantha Beales as well as first-time half-marathons for nine more of the Orange Army! On a personal note I was extremely happy to finally achieve a PB and my first ever sub 1 hour 30 half-marathon! It is certainly a race I would like to run again in the future.
