BUNGAY BLACK DOG SUMMER SERIES RACE ONE 10K 06/06/2018
It was a beautiful evening in Bungay for the first race of the Bungay Black Dog 10k Summer Series. Great racing conditions on the evening with blue skies, a gentle breeze and over 200 runners. Seven Jaguars were at the event ready to see where they were at for their 10k times.
The course is very flat and quite sheltered which means the opportunity for some fast times. The race kicked off at 7:30pm from the Black Dog’s base in Ditchingham, running out of the field onto country lanes. The route is mostly road, meandering through the beautiful countryside and villages of Kirby Row and Ellingham before going off the tarmac and on to a nicely compacted track past Broome for the final couple of kilometres. Many will be familiar with this stretch from the Bungay Marathon and Half Marathon.
I was first jag home (James Lambert) in a PB time (not club PB as the route is classed as multi-terrain) of 40:05. I could see the clock on 39:50 when I was running round the field for the final stages but just missed the sub 40 mark. Maybe next time! Next in for the jags was Ken Bowman with a great time of 43:22 and winning his age category. Awesome job! Nicola Lambert-John followed shortly with a PB time of 43:37, fantastic result considering she was expecting closer to 45 minutes! Rod Bye came in with a time of 43:56 struggling with the “wind”… Missing from the results sheet is Phil Henry but I believe his position was 58th and a time of 44:32. Paul Berner came in at 49:18 and Jackie Bye at 51:13.
The next race is in three weeks time and selling out fast.
