Bungay Festival Of Running – Sunday 2nd April 2017

April has finally arrived and the Marathon season gets into full swing, The Bungay Festival of Running is our closest Marathon, they also include a half Marathon and a 10k. Five Jags lined up for the Full and three for the half on a beautiful spring day with near perfect running conditions. The Marathon started at 9am and set off on the undulating two lap course which crosses the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk, with five Jags of very similar ability this was going to be anyone’s race? Rod Bye and Pete Nelson threw caution to the wind and started near the front of the field while James Lambert, Graham Johnson and Dean Blake took a more conservative position in the pack. The weather didn’t seem quite as perfect when we started running and we were soon getting hot and sweaty and taking water at every drinks station was essential. Pete started to succumb to the warm weather and the pace at about the half way point, probably more due to the fact that he at been at sea for seven days! sailing a yacht from England to Portugal the previous week! Rod managed to hang on to achieve his first PB for a number of years and PBs also for James and Dean and a superb first time Marathon for Graham, Pete gritted his teeth and somehow managed to complete the second lap and was treated for low blood pressure and sugar levels at the finish ( he has recovered ) the Half Marathon also had its drama’s with Emma Wilcock suffering a injury but in true Jags spirit also gritted her teeth and completed the course with Steven Pointer at her side all the way ( Awww bless him ) no such problems for Nic Holden who finished strong and second in her age category.
