Valentine’s 10K – Sunday 19 February 2017
The most romantic race of the year was not only one of the races in the Leathes Prior Grand Prix series, but also a County Championship event as well, so there was a good turn out of runners as you would expect. The weather for February was kind to us, I bravely stripped down to 2 layers and didn’t even need to wear a hat!
This course started and finished with up hill climbs, incorporating the villages of Easton, Colton and Marlingford, but of course the 12 Jags taking part were undaunted, helped on our way by the supporters and marshalls along the route.
Both Ken Bowman and Rod Bye did us proud, winning gold and silver County Championship awards in their age groups. Ken’s gold was particularly impressive as he later revealed he had been out partying the night before!
The awesome Tony Alborough added to his impressive tally of PBs with a diamond standard, and there were diamonds too for Rod Bye and Nicholas Eley (FT) and of course Ken Bowman. Neil Button and Graham Johnson were also on top form, both gaining PBs and gold standards and Claire Owen, one of only 2 ladies running in orange vests today, had a brilliant run and achieved a PB and bronze standard.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable Valentine’s event for anyone with a love for running!
