Wymondham 10k – Monday 2 January 2017

The first race of the year took place a day later than normal January 2nd 2017. This was perhaps a blessing because it gave us an extra day to recover from the New year celebrations. It’s a race I traditionally attend with a large field of runners (800 registered) and a great atmosphere. 16 Jags lined up for the 10.30 start only to be told that the race would be delayed for another 15 mins because of the icy conditions. The start is on a very narrow lane and it takes a while for 800 runners to filter through, at the top of the lane you turn left and the road opens out and the race really starts, the first 2 miles are a gentle climb then its good running until a short sharp hill just before the finish. There were some great performances on the day with Tony Alborough first Jag home and smashing the 40 minute barrier for the first time (39.18) and PB’s for Dean Blake, Ben Gaskins and the ever improving Emma Blake, well done everyone a great start to the year.
