Mike Groves 10k – Sunday 5 June 2016
After much hard work behind the scenes it was finally time for the Jaguars inaugural race at our new home at Scottow Enterprise Park. It was ten years ago that the last Jaguars flew out of the former Battle of Britain base, so the site is steeped in history and provides a great location for a fast running race. You are certainly exposed to the elements here and on the day we had some sunny spells which made for some great pictures but the wind did prove to be a test to the runners at certain points around the course.
There was a fantastic turnout of runners for this our second race of the 2016 10k series of races and hopefully there will be a similar amount, if not more, for the final race in September. It proved for a great atmosphere on the day and with lots of space and grassy areas, the runners were quite happy to chill and talk about the event after the race in the lovely sunshine.
A big thank you goes out to all the marshals, café helpers, organisers and volunteers who made this event go so smoothly on the day. The support out on course was in the usual enthusiastic Jags fashion. Also thanks to everyone for baking some amazing cakes; what a spread!
Eleven Jaguars managed to participate in the race and five of these runners achieved PB’s; what a result! First Jag home was Zac Mace with a sub-40 PB of 39:43 and achieving gold standard. Fantastic effort Zac. Next in was me (James L) also getting a PB but not quite in the sub 40 zone yet but still happy with a time of 40:25. Third Jag in was Tom, achieving a PB time of 40:32 and was running so strong all the way round.
Tony Alborough was hoping for a time of around 41 minutes and was pretty accurate with his prediction completing the race in 41:10. Good to see you wearing the Jags colours now Tony! Next up was Scott Shrubshall with a PB and silver standard time of 42:01. Sub 42 for you next time Scott? It was great to see Nick Hudson back running after some recent injury troubles and he completed the race with a bronze standard time of 45:01.
The first of the three ladies competing for the Jags today was Lucy Anderson with a PB time of 47:36. Great effort and all those parkruns are certainly paying dividends! Next home was Paul Gerber with a time of 52:36, followed by Emma Mortimer 55:49 (first time) and Henry Neal 56:10 (first time). Jillie Cole completed the Jags line up achieving silver standard with a time of 56:15.
Well done everyone and we look forward to the final race in the series, The Jolly Jags 10k on 25 September!
