Wroxham 5K Series – Race 1 – 13 May 2015
16 Jaguars competed in the first of this three race series. Several other members punctuated the course with their superb cheers encouraging our runners to keep up their spirits even when their legs were weary. The excellent race conditions produced some very fast times, several PB’s, Age Bests and a few First Appearances for our members who ran. First Jag home was the swiftly improving Tom Johnson, 59th in a field of 316, with a superb time of 19.04 mins.
Three of our runners were in combat and at the end only 4 seconds separated Ben Gaskins with 20.08, Ken Bowman on 20.11 and Scott Shrubsall only one second later. Ellie Bye was our first female to cross the line with 20.25. David Brailey scored an Age Category Best with 21.45 and Sue Allen won her age group romping home only 9 seconds later.
Meanwhile another battle ensued between Tom’s father, Graham and Shirley Wilcock’s daughter Emma. Again this was nail biting and only two seconds separated them both at the end. Their times of 22.07 for Graham and 22.09 for Miss Wilcock were a Silver Standard First 5k for Graham and a PB for Emma.
Peter Kean-Cockburn who is enjoying one of his fastest seasons ran an Age Best Silver Standard with 23.28 close to his PB scored 7 years ago.
Claire Owen ran a brave race supporting an injury and Jackie Gooch after several long distance races ran a PB – 27.16, closely followed by our rapidly improving Dawn Chapman. Her 27.25 was a first 5k for the club and faster than her park runs at Catton.
It was inspiring to see one of our newer members Carolyn Gerber enjoy her first Wroxham 5k in Jags colours with a time of just over 30mins. The ever smiling Annette Yeomanson completed our Jamboree with 31.51.
The next Wroxham 5k is on the 17th June. This is a County Championship and the cakes are sure to satisfy even the fussiest palate. Do come and eat even if you don’t compete!
