Race Round-Up: 6 April 2014
Nine Jaguars travelled to the county border in windy and changeable weather conditions to compete in four events:
Lowestoft 5 Mile Promenade Dash. Three Lady Jaguars were in force at the UK’s most easterly point 5 mile race. Jackie Bye was first Jaguar home in a time of 41:00 (gold) while Rebecca Durant ran a gold standard time 45:31. Both came first in their respective age categories. Christine Cooke finished in 46:14, giving her a bronze standard performance. Full Results
Bungay Black Dog Marathon & Half Marathon. Melvyn Porter was the Jaguars’ sole representative in this year’s Bungay Black Dog Marathon. Described as a “marathon runner’s marathon”, the undulating double lap course, a sparse field of athletes and supporters (relative to the distance) and this year’s gusty conditions made for a tough physical and mental running test. This, however, didn’t stop Melvyn from running a personal best time for the distance in a chip time of 3:47:41 (bronze) coming in 65th out of 168 finishers. Marathon Full Results
The Half-Marathon which is one lap of the marathon course and starts 2 hours after the full marathon, attracted two Jaguars entries: Jonathon Foot crossed the finishing line in a silver standard chip time of 1:54:43 while Paul Groves completed the race in a chip time of 2:02:28. Diss Duathlon. The only non pure running event in the County Race Calendar continues to attract a sell-out field in 2014. This popular event consists of a 5.1km run transitioning to a 30km road bike leg and completing the race with another 5.1km run. Traditionally, with the Jaguars’ plethora of cross training athletes, the club is well represented. This year saw a relatively low club field of entry with Andy Mulligan, Alan Bushell and Adele Bushell taking on the race. Of note is Andrew Mulligan’s total time of 1:38:46 which gave him 15th place overall and 5th in his age category (20-29). Full Results
