Somerleyton 5K

There was another brilliant turnout of 15 orange vests for the first running of the Somerleyton 5k. The horrendous weather conditions which had been forecast held off until after the race although it was a bit blustery in places.  The actual course was mainly flat ,apart from one  hill in the middle, and finished in the grounds of Somerleyton Hall.  Up front for the Jags a real battle took place with Lawrence Wade coming out the victor in 15th place (18.30), followed by Steve Bates 16th (18.39) (Steve was also 2nd 40+), and Mark Haynes in 18th (18.46).  Colin Robilliard wasn’t far behind finishing in 20th position with a time of 19.12 and was first in his age group. Next in was Darren Edridge (20.13) with Zep Ciarla just a minute behind.  First lady home for the club and winning the first senior lady prize was Emily Hannant in 22.31.  Next in was Dave Hutcheon in 24.47  (2nd 60+), Christine Cooke 25.23 (2nd 50+), Krysia Smith (25.34) and  Brenda Hutcheon 27.19 (2nd 55+).  Rachel Harmes turned out for her first race in quite a while and finished in 28.23.  The biggest mention has to go to three lady Jaguars who were running their first ever race and showed real determination and with big smiles at the end had obviously enjoyed the experience. First of the three was Sarah Letzer who ran an excellent time of 28.17 (you’d better watch out Ben she’ll be beating you soon), Orla Cobb was next in 31.56 and Annette Yeomanson  33.47.  Let’s hope we’ll see you on the start line again soon.
