Wroxham 5k Series Race 1

The orange army was out in full force on Wednesday,  both running and supporting, and there were some notable performances on a perfect evening for running. Of the 21 Jaguars who started 5 came away with personal bests and another 5 were running the distance for the first time. Wayne Gibbs came in first for the club in a personal best time of 18.53 (Gold standard), whilst further down the standings Richard Collyer and Ken Bowman battled out the last 400 metres for a very exciting finish. Richard just got in ahead of Ken taking a new 5k pb whilst Ken in finishing with a diamond standard 19.53 took first prize in his age category. Ellie Bye, Adele Bushell and Katherine Garwood all ran well to achieve their best ever times.

There was disappointment for Emily Hannant, Ellie Bye and Verity Holmes who were told on the night that they had won the senior ladies category, but were later informed that this was incorrect and they had in fact finished second. Nevertheless their collective performance was excellent and gives them some unfinished business for the next race which takes place on 20th June.

North Norfolk Marathon and Half Marathon 2012

The fact that most of the marathon and half marathon courses were off road did not prevent those Jaguars who took part putting in some excellent performances. Most notable was Ben Letzer who won the marathon beating his nearest rival by over 2 minutes in a time of 2.55.19. Alan Bushell who also ran the marathon completed the course in a time of 3.28.54.

The half marathon saw 5 Jaguars taking part, Peter Cobb finished in 1.40.11 followed by David Brailey (1.46.31) Sonya Turner (1.55.39) Fiona Baldwin (2.10.33) and Clare Hicks (2.10.34)

Great Yarmouth 5 Mile Series (Race 2)

Although a little wet and breezy, the weather was a vast improvement on the first race of the series and the conditions made for some exciting racing and quick times. Mark Haynes and Steve Bates had a fantastic battle to be first Jaguar to cross the line. It was neck and neck coming in to the final straight but Mark managed to find a finishing kick to take the honours. Steve’s time was good enough to take third place in his age category, whilst Colin Robilliard the next Jag home took second place in his age group. Richard Collyer and Emily Hannant both recorded p.b’s for the 2nd time in a week, whilst best times were also achieved by Ellie Bye and Claire Owen. Verity Holmes and Katherine Garwood both ran the distance for the first time in orange. The third and final race in this years series is on the 23rd May (Sunshine guaranteed).

Breckland 10k

On another excellent fast course 5 of the 10 Jaguars who took part recorded personal best times. Emily Hannant was the first lady Jaguar across the line with a fantastic silver standard time of 45.46. In the process she re-claimed the club record for this distance from Ellie Bye. Zep Ciarla in being first Jaguar home took his first gold standard run with a personal best time of 42.03. Best times were also recorded by Scott Chadwick, Jackie Bye and Claire Owen. With so many p.b’s over the weekend it is clear that everybody’s hard training is paying off and healthy competition between members is raising running standards across the board.

Grand East Anglia Run 10k

On a perfect day for running, this course once again proved a gold mine for fast times with 7 Jaguars running personal bests and 6 achieving gold standards. Norwich Park Run

Three lady Jags turned in personal best  performances today in only their second race for the club. Ana Ohde, who completed her first race last week at  the Park Run, was almost a minute quicker recording a silver standard time of 23.59.  Sarah Letzer chipped away at her time  running 28.14 and Orla Cobb was 30 seconds quicker in 31.20.  Well done girls – keep up the good work.

Greater Manchester Marathon

In appauling weather conditions Denver Slowther and Mark Harmer ran their first marathon for the club and turned in excellent times.  They ran the whole course together helping each other through any bad patches and their pace was very consistent. The first half was run in 1.46 and the second half  just two minutes slower.  Denver crossed the line in 3.34.22  (splits here) followed by Mark timed at 3.34.23 (splits here). Well done lads.

Somerleyton 5K

There was another brilliant turnout of 15 orange vests for the first running of the Somerleyton 5k. The horrendous weather conditions which had been forecast held off until after the race although it was a bit blustery in places.  The actual course was mainly flat ,apart from one  hill in the middle, and finished in the grounds of Somerleyton Hall.  Up front for the Jags a real battle took place with Lawrence Wade coming out the victor in 15th place (18.30), followed by Steve Bates 16th (18.39) (Steve was also 2nd 40+), and Mark Haynes in 18th (18.46).  Colin Robilliard wasn’t far behind finishing in 20th position with a time of 19.12 and was first in his age group. Next in was Darren Edridge (20.13) with Zep Ciarla just a minute behind.  First lady home for the club and winning the first senior lady prize was Emily Hannant in 22.31.  Next in was Dave Hutcheon in 24.47  (2nd 60+), Christine Cooke 25.23 (2nd 50+), Krysia Smith (25.34) and  Brenda Hutcheon 27.19 (2nd 55+).  Rachel Harmes turned out for her first race in quite a while and finished in 28.23.  The biggest mention has to go to three lady Jaguars who were running their first ever race and showed real determination and with big smiles at the end had obviously enjoyed the experience. First of the three was Sarah Letzer who ran an excellent time of 28.17 (you’d better watch out Ben she’ll be beating you soon), Orla Cobb was next in 31.56 and Annette Yeomanson  33.47.  Let’s hope we’ll see you on the start line again soon.

Great Yarmouth 5 Mile (1st in Series)

I wonder why there were no personal bests at The Yarmouth 5 miler  – I suppose it will be the old excuse about the weather but what’s wrong with gale force winds and heavy rain – it’s character building. On a serious note well done to all 7  Jags that braved the awful conditions. First home for the club was Steve Bates, who came away with the 40+ age prize, followed by Scott Chadwick, Emily Hannant, Ellie Bye, Adele Bushel, Claire Owen, and finally our Chairman Becky Durant who, as from tomorrow, will be in a new age group – Happy Birthday Becky.     Full Results
