Reepham Summer Sunday 10k 2012

The hot conditions made for hard going as 10 Jaguars sweated their way round Reepham for this years 10k. First to finish for the club was Scott Chadwick with a bronze standard 44.16, but the performance of the day went to Heather Hollister who with a gold standard 55.00 took first prize in the ladies 60+ category.

Norwich Park Run

While the majority of the 300+ park runners were struggling with the heat, on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far, no p.b’s were expected and yet two Jags surprised themselves by doing just that. Sze-Ming Cheung took almost 30 seconds off his time running 19.29 and Sarah Letzer took 48 seconds off her best time running 27.26.

Norwich Parkrun

In event number 101 held on the 4th August, Ben Letzer, who famously once told me that “He wouldn’t get out of bed for anything less than a marathon,” ran his first Parkrun and set an excellent 18.23 pb. On the same day Lawrence Wade was awarded the overall points prize for the 2011 / 2012 season. Lawrence has completed nearly 50 parkruns in total, winning one and consistently finishing near the front on almost every other occasion.

Worstead 5

On a lovely evening for running, over half the club turned out for the Worstead 5 mile road race. 51 orange vests were on show in what must be a club record for a single race. On a course which has most of the last mile uphill, ten runners finished with personal best times, most notably Lawrence Wade who finished first Jaguar and Ellie Bye who led the ladies home. Other notable runs came from Ken Bowman who on his 65th birthday ran a Platinum standard time and Deb Jones who in her first race at this distance for the club finished with a very good silver standard time. A further 12 Jaguars ran the distance for the first time. Hopefully the experience of running with so many fellow club members will have them all coming back for more.

Wroxham 5k

At least the thunder, lightning and heavy rain that was forecast waited until the runners were inside enjoying their well deserved tea and cake and I expect the dash to the cars afterwards was harder than the race. The 14  Jags who turned out all had excellent runs especially Scott Chadwick ,Ellie Bye and Grant Randell.  Scott, who has been trying to break the 20 min barrier for some time, finished in 19.44. Ellie knocked 25 seconds off her time running 21.25 and Grant ran a pb in 20.30. Rosemary Jackson ran her first 5k for the club in a silver standard time of 26.55.

Ekiden Relays

As usual ‘Ipswich Jaffa’ turned on the good weather for ‘The Ekiden Relays’ which was welcomed by the 115 teams competing. The event is run over the marathon distance of  26.2 miles with 6 members in each team running varying distances.  Our first team home, in 50th position, were ‘The Misfits’ in an overall time of 3.14.38.  The ‘Foxes’ were 73rd in 3.28.30 and ‘The Dreamteam’ 114th in 4.25.53. New members Steve Wragg, Vanessa Clements and Jenny Welsh ran in their orange vests for the first time and hopefully enjoyed the experience.

Marham 10 Miles

Steve Bates and Colin Robilliard  travelled to The Marham RAF base to compete in their 10 mile road race. The weather was much improved from previous days and this made for good running conditions. Colin won his age category in 1.05.13 and Steve was second in his age group in 1.02.58.    Full Results

Fairlands Valley Challenge

Ben Letzer and Alan Bushell travelled to Stevenage for the Fairlands Valley Spartans 50k (31 miles) challenge and both came away with excellent results. The day was dry but previous rainfall made this mostly off-road race very muddy. Competitors had to navigate the course themselves making the challenge even more difficult. Out of a large field of 124 Ben finished in 6th place overall in a time of 5.05 whilst Alan came in 32nd in 5.43.

The Lord Mayors 5k

Lawrence Wade and Steve Bates turned out for the Lord Mayor’s 5k ,which can be a bit daunting to see all the elite athletes lined up on the start line, but this didn’t stop the pair having great runs. Lawrence, who was running this race for the first time, ran a really strong race with an excellent sprint finish which gave him a well deserved placing of 39th and a time of 17.52.  Steve having run this race before knew what to expect and ran the first lap conservatively picking it up on the second lap to finish in 52nd position in 18.33. Well done lads you did the club proud.      results    photos     photos
