Snowdonia Marathon

October 23rd, 2011

To describe the Snowdonia Marathon as difficult would be an understatement. Any race that takes in several major climbs through mountain passes is not to be undertaken lightly, especially when the run is accompanied by howling winds and lashing rain, as happened this year. To complete any marathon in under 4 hours is a significant achievement, but to do so in this race is a magnificent effort. Scott Chadwick, was the only Jaguar to take part in the race this year and completed the course in a time of 3 hours, 57 minutes and 50 seconds taking 12 minutes off his time for the same race last year.

Great Yarmouth 10k

October 23rd, 2011

Ken Bowman paid no attention to what at times seemed like gale force winds to power his way to a superb personal best of 41.20, finally achieving a club platinum standard and also taking third place in his age group. Zac Mace also apparantly unaffected by the forces of nature ran a pb, taking a silver standard 40.14. Of the remaining Jaguars to take part, other excellent performances came from Steve Bates who was first across the line for the club with a time of 37.40, Krysia Smith who ran a personal best bronze standard 51.00 and David Egerton who in his first race at this distance for the club ran a silver standard 44.15.

Norwich Parkrun

October 22nd, 2011

A brief mention should go to David Brailey who ran his first Norwich parkrun on the 27th August with a time of 25.48. He has since completed another 4 parkruns taking a personal best on each occasion. His last success was on the 22nd October when he completed the race in a time of 22.40. An improvement of just 6 seconds in his next race will see a bronze standard certificate on his mantlepiece. No pressure!

Marathons and Half Marathons

October 16th, 2011

Several Jaguars have hit the road recently, travelling far and wide to take part in various long distance races.

On the 9th October 3 Jaguars took the relatively short journey to Peterborough for the Great East Run (Half marathon). Stewart Marden with a chip time of 1.40.08 took over 2 minutes off his previous best, whilst Colin Robilliard with his usual excellent run ran a platinum standard 1.27.25. Dee Neal finished in a bronze standard 2.08.08.  Results

Slightly further afield Steve Niblett travelled to Cardiff,  for the half marathon on the 16th October. He narrowly missed out on a diamond standard run with an excellent time of 1.26.08, he did however take the club record for the distance in his age category. Website

Also on the 16th October Andrew Mulligan rather appropriately donned orange vest, shorts and hair for the Amsterdam marathon running a silver standard 3.17.51, taking the club age category record for the distance. He was accompanied to the Netherlands by Peter Kean-Cockburn, Jonathan Edwards and Martin Bagnall who all participated in the half marathon. Jonathan with a time of 1.51.19 and Peter with a time of 1.57.38 both ran pb’s whilst Martin had an excellent race missing out on a pb by 5 seconds with a silver standard 1.36.52. Website

It was lovely to be back at Shouldham Warren for the start of the Cross Country season and the Ryston Runners Grand Prix series.   Steve Bates, who isn’t a great fan of cross country, finished in 6th place in the senior men’s event  in 18.13.  It was great to see Darren Edridge back running again after his long spell out of action and he also finished 6th in the Vet 40 men in 20.19.  Dave Hutcheon was 7th in the Vet 60 category in 23.57 with Brenda Hutcheon picking up 2nd prize in the Vet 55 ladies in 25.14.  Young Alana Edridge ran a  p.b in the under 9  girls event to finish with a superb sprint in 21st position.  The next race in the series is on November 13th with a tough 9k.    Full Results

Marriotts Way 10k

October 9th, 2011

The Marroitts Way 10k is quite a low key race but offers one of the flattest local 10 k courses and although most of it is off road, on a dry day offers an excellent chance for a pb. Only 3 Jaguars took to the start line, but all had excellent runs. Zac Mace in his first 10 k for the club came 7th overall with a silver standard time of  41.29, whilst Sue Allen with a gold standard time of 49.18 took first prize in the ladies 50-54 category and Heather Hollister with a diamond standard time of 52.06 took first place in the 60+ category.
