Park Runs 10th & 17th August

On the 10th August at the Norwich Park Run Roy Owen ran a p.b. time of 24.14 so not to be outdone by dad Claire Owen also ran a p.b. in 25.05.  Mum Mary Owen thought she had better get in on the act so on the 17th at Gorleston ran a p.b. time of 29.13. The same day at Norwich Lisa Symon ran her 7th p.b. of the year in 24.06.

Great Yarmouth Half Marathon

Only 4 Jaguars ran the Great Yarmouth half marathon but all ran well on what is quite a testing course. Colin Robilliard ran his usual excellent race with a Platinum standard time of 1.26.28 in the process taking first place in his age category. Jonny Reader with a silver standard time of 1.34.07 was next Jaguar to finish and was well inside his own predicted time. Paul Allen in his first race at the distance for the club ran it in 1.44.46. Dawn Collyer used the race as marathon training so paced it accordingly, she finished in 2.08.22 then went on to run another 4 miles to complete her weekly long run.

The Anglian Long Distance Triathlon

Based in Cromer this is a new event for this year comprising a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a full marathon. The race was open to individuals to complete the whole event or for teams of three in a relay, with each member completing one of the legs. Andy Mulligan took the marathon leg on at fairly short notice when one of the teams lost a member due to injury. The run consisted of 4 laps around Cromer, each lap including a very steep climb from the Promenade up to the lighthouse at 75 metres. Despite the tough nature of the course Andy still managed an excellent time of 3 hours 52 mins 11 secs, which helped his team to 4th place overall.

Not quite the record turnout of last year but still 42 Jaguars turned out for the annual orange procession round the Worstead 5. William Robinson had the honour of being the first Worstead resident to finish. There were also 7 personal bests and 6 running their first 5 mile race for the club. Fairlands Valley Challenge

Whilst most runners are content to compete at shorter distances, some step up to take on a marathon or two, but only the truly dedicated go further. Ben Letzer the clubs ultra specialist once more took on the the 50k (30 mile) Fairlands Valley Challenge, an off road race run in the north of Hertfordshire. Not only did he run the race but finished second overall in an amazing time of 4 hours 11 minutes. This is even more impressive when you consider that all those who enter have to navigate the route themselves armed only with a basic set of directions.

Aylsham 10k

Steve Cannell and Jon Foot were the only members running the inaugural  Aylsham 10k. Steve was second overall in a time of 37.34 and Jon, running his first race for the club, posted a time of  45.09 but as the course was multi-terrain the times do not count for club standards.

Dereham 5k

This was another successful day at the well organised Dereham 5k for the 7 Jags who turned out. Matt Stone and Lawrence Wade had their usual battle up front with Matt just pipping Lawrence by 2 seconds. Matt’s time of 17.35 gave him second prize in the 40+ age group. Mark Harmer tried to keep with the lads on the first lap but ran out of steam (you’ll keep with them next time Mark). I don’t know what Rod Bye had for breakfast but he took an impressive 47 seconds off  his p.b. to run a gold standard time of 19.21. Next in was Ady Jay on one of his uninjured weeks, which is very rare, but then fell off his bike later in the afternoon. Not to be outdone by the boys Ellie Bye ran another p.b. and club record and Sarah Jay took 23 seconds off  her time running 22.29 which was a new age club record and also won 2nd prize in the 45+ group.

Victory Sprint Triathlon and Grafham Water Duathlon

As if running wasn’t hard enough more of our members took to to the roads and water in multi-sport events this weekend. Andy Mulligan, Jonny Reader and Adele Bushell completed The North Walsham Victory Sprint Triathlon, an event comprising a 300 metre swim, 17k cycle and 3k run. Andy finished 8th overall and first in his age category with a total time of 47:10 (Swim 5:17/Bike 30:37/Run 10:00) whilst Jonny finished in 13th place and 3rd in his age group in a total time of 51:25 (5:17/32:45/11:40). Adele also finished 3rd in her age group in 1:04:22 (8:07/39:52/14:25)

Meanwhile further west conditions were fairly cool at Grafham Water near Huntingdon where Richard and Dawn Collyer had an early start for a duathlon comprising a 10k run 40k cycle and 5k run. Richard finished in a total time of 2.23.12 (46:16/1:11:08/22:55) whilst Dawn came home in 2.51.05 (54:43/1:26:09/27:35).

Wroxham 5k

On another very hot and sunny evening 14 Jags ran the last race in the popular Wroxham 5k Series. First home for the club, 7th overall and 3rd senior man was new member Stephen Cannell.  His time of 16.33 was a new club record taking almost a minute off the previous time. Dean Blake was next home in a new p.b of 19.15. Ken Bowman ran his usual strong race to finish first in his category to post a new age club record of 19.55. Anthony Norris, another new member, recorded a time of 2.13.  Claire Owen is finally getting the speed back into her legs after her marathon and ‘with a little help from her friends’ ran a p.b of 25.12

Ekiden Relays

We had three teams enter the  Ekiden Relays at St Joseph’s College in Ipswich on Sunday 14th July.  The teams came 9th, 11th and 12th  in the mixed category which made it a good inter-club competition.  There are six people in each team running the marathon distance of 26.2 miles over a  2.5k  lap course.  It proved to be the hottest day of the year so far which was excellent for spectators but the 28 degrees was not so kind to the runners.
