Lord Mayors 5K – Saturday 3 July 2016
Two James’ decided to take up the challenge of the Lord Mayor’s City Centre Classic 5k race this year hosted by CONAC. James Lambert and James Fuller both aiming for that sub 20 5k on a tough and undulating course were looking forward to being spurred on by the crowds to achieve that target. The Jags support was great as usual with lots of cheering and screaming on Tombland and at other points out on the course.
I (James L) had been following a ten week training plan to achieve that first sub-20 5k and actually managed it along the way, firstly at Lowestoft parkrun and then at the first Wroxham 5k. On the day, we did make a slight schoolboy error in that we got to the back of the pack at the starting line thinking that it was chip to chip timing, however it was gun to chip timing so we lost a couple of seconds and also costing me a PB (finishing in a time of 19:08)! Never mind, James F did incredibly well again with fantastic determination and achieved his first sub-20 and PB time of 19:39.
If you can run a sub 20 5k or want to train towards one, I recommend this race due to the atmosphere and fantastic support all the way around the course.
