Humpty Dumpty 10k – Freethorpe – Sunday 26 June 2016
Humpty Dumpty 10k – Freethorpe – 26 June 2016
Organised by Great Yarmouth and District Athletics Club, sponsored by Humpty Dumpty Brewery and advertised as…. ‘A 10K Road Race around a circular route of quiet roads in the beautiful Norfolk Countryside’….. a lovely local race.
20 Jaguars completed the course on a day that initially felt like it would be a complete washout – having had torrential rain in the days and morning running up to the event. Kudos to the organisers for their determination for ensuring the race went ahead despite the elements trying everything to hinder preparations.
Soon all 515 runners were off!
It became clear that some were more prepared than others for the hills on this course!
First Jag home, Tony Alborough – with a fantastic 40.40 (PB – Gold!) was 4th in his age group so narrowly missed out on a trophy – next time Tony!
So, our one and only trophy winner was the amazing Ken – 43.18 (Platinum) – 1st in age group
Congratulations to our 1st Lady Jag home in a great time – Vicky Tovell 46.53 (Gold)
There were some more excellent PB performances – Sonya Wragg (50.48), Ruth Gainsford (52.45 – a massive 2 minutes quicker than ever before!) and Graham Robson (52.23 – just 3 seconds quicker would have been silver – good motivation for next time)
It was lovely to see some new members in Coltishall vests, and special thanks to Claire and Becky for the Jags noisy support – it really does make a difference!
Well done to all you sensible people who left before the presentation…. getting out of the car park was… interesting to say the least. Luckily GY&DAC had thought of everything including a Land Rover and rope to tow everyone off the field!
