Alan Groves, our Chairman, formed the club after his son, Michael, a talented runner and cyclist was tragically killed in an accident back in 1998. The following year Alan organised a memorial charity race (proceeds going to The Quidenham Children’s Hospice) called ‘The Mike Groves Run’ an unusual distance of 5.49km on a course often used by Mike as one of his training runs. This proved a success and has become an annual event, which inspired Alan and his other son Paul to form the Jaguars in 2004. Since, then a further two races have been added to the calendar.
Our location provides us with some excellent training runs through the surrounding country lanes or alongside the Bure Valley Railway line which runs through Coltishall from Aylsham to Wroxham and for effort sessions we have the local ‘rec’ or a couple of hills close by, so training can be very enjoyable - at times!!
The Club offers training throughout the year come rain, hail or shine and are fortunate to have four runners with coaching experience who are always happy to help and be there to organise the training sessions. You are always welcome to come along and give us a try for a few weeks before joining the club.
Club standard certificates are presented twice a year, once in June at the summer barbecue and again in December at the Christmas social.
We meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.
